Hello lovely. 

Today, I want to talk about living a life IN BLOOM, by mastering the garden of your mind. 

Did you know your mind is a literal garden? 

Let me walk you through the golden gate and show you EXACTLY how:  

Point one:  Your thoughts are the seeds. 

The harvest can either be flowers or weeds.”

This famous metaphor speaks volumes about the influence our unconscious mind has on creating the results we get in life.

So, lets dig in (no pun intended).

First.  What’s in a thought?

Your subconscious mind consists of many things you may not be aware of or give much thought to day-to-day, such as 

-beliefs, 

-habits, 

-values, 

-attitudes 

and ....

-behaviours to name a few.

Think of the subconscious mind as the soil in which you plant your garden. 

It offers a foundation for the seeds to grow and take root, providing plants with the resources they need to take life and to thrive. 

However, the soil does not discriminate; 

it’s sole purpose is to support the ecosystem and it's immunity – the good, the bad and the ugly.

Your conscious mind consists of your thoughts and feelings about the things you notice and ultimately do. 

This is the part of your mind you are aware of day-to-day. 

In this garden analogy, the seeds you plant in your garden are, collectively, your conscious mind. 

Every thought you think is a seed.

So what?

A conscious thought which reappears often will eventually embed itself into your subconscious mind, where it will grow into a permanent belief. 

Depending on the thought, this can work for you or against you - and the trickiest part, is that we're often unconscious to our beliefs, and they run on a negative bias framework of 90% of our thoughts daily. 

Now, who wants a garden like that?  

Getting the picture? 

When we plant a seed in our garden, it always grows into what the seed was meant to be. 

f you plant roses, you will reap roses.

 If you plant lavender, you will reap lavender.

Just like the seeds you plant in a garden, the thoughts you think also grow into what they are meant to be. 

For example, if your thoughts are mainly about how hard it is to get fit ( or whatever your desire is), you will unconsciously foster beliefs in your mind at its deepest level to support this.

 As a result, you will walk, talk, feel and act like a person who holds this belief. 

You will develop unconscious habits and behaviors to support this belief and naturally, will get the results that perfectly reinforce these beliefs. 

That is, in this example, poor fitness levels and in the long run, health problems. 

Will this adversely impact your life? Absolutely.

In life, it has been said that “you get what you focus on, to the exclusion of everything else.” 

Your outer reality reflects your inner-thoughts and beliefs with great precision.

Only you can tend to your inner-garden; that is your mind. 

It is your responsibility to seed and fertilise your inner-garden with the plants you want to grow.

 Remember, the subconscious mind does not discriminate between thoughts. 

Our garden grows the seed that is planted whether it is desirable or not.  

And, there is a significant penalty for neglecting your inner garden: a life not of your choosing.

So how do we create our own beautiful garden?

We must be present and conscious in our lives.

THIS IS THE KEY TO UNLOCKING THE GARDEN OF THE MIND.  

Choose to be mindful and present in the seeds that you plant and in how you nurture them. 

Fleeting thoughts are like seeds blown in with the wind. 

They do not get planted, watered and nourished unless we choose to do so. 

When you choose to focus on repeated thoughts, you reinforce and reaffirm them, meaning they grow stronger and deeper roots. 

They take up more space in your garden. 

Alternatively, when you step back to observe and analyse your thoughts as they come, you can decide to keep those which serve you; and remove those that do not serve you. 

You can also encourage the growth of the plants you’d like to see more of and resolve to focus on cultivating this area going forward.

Success takes time, effort, tenacity and a great deal of focus - but it can be fun - and damnit - quite fruitful!

Successful people consciously choose to focus on where they’re heading NOW with clarity. 

They surround themselves with good seeds and flourishing flowers - and no- I'm not talking bout PANSIES! 

 

Unsuccessful people, do not. 

And, further supporting Wordsworth’s garden metaphor, Earl Nightingale once said: 

“You become what you think about most of the time.”

So how much do we know on how to manage our brain health?

The below model provides an overall summary of the seven levels of energy. It also includes the core thoughts, feelings, and behavior associated with each level.

First, let me explain what  neurodiversity is:  

Well, welcome to my brain - and this episode is meant to shine a light on the superpowers and  neurodiverse strengths. 

Neurodiversity is the belief that conditions labeled as ADD, Autism, Bipolar, Dyslexia etc are brand evolutions of homosapiens. Rather than a defect of the genome.

With this thought, we must consider its values and benefits before considering its obstacles and complications.

If you are a woman with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), you’ve probably known—all your life—that you’re different. 

As girls, we learn which behaviors, thinking, learning, and working styles are preferred, which are accepted and tolerated, and which are frowned upon. These preferences are communicated in innumerable ways—from media and books to our first-grade classroom to conversations with our classmates and parents.

Over the course of a lifetime, women with ADHD learn through various channels that the way they think, work, speak, relate, and act does not match up with the preferred way of being in the world. In short, they learn that difference is bad. And, since these women know that they are different, they learn that they are bad.

Let's change that NOW.

Do you feel like the minute you wake up, you are overwhelmed with the constant flow of information. 

You want to start something new, only to find yourself forgetting the information and giving up on yourself? 

I think you’d agree that everyone loves efficiency.   

This is why I’m starting with how we can prime our mind.

These skills are a fundamental truth that can be applied in all areas of our life, adn especially before learning something new! 

When it comes to learning anything - I love to follow the FASTER Method, originally quoted by the famous mind coach, Jim Kwik.

So let’s jump right in! 

Forget

Start by temporarily forgetting everything you already know, or think you do, about what you’ll be learning. 

Why? Because your brain needs to be cleansed of it’s big old ego that thinks it already knows what it needs to know.

The mind is like a parachute, it only works when it’s open.  

Lastly the one thing you ESPECIALLY want to Forget about is self limitations – 

BECAUSE THE TRUTH IS THIS….what we say we can or cannot do - is completely self-fulfilling. 

 

 Action

Most people are extremely passive while learning because that’s what their education model has taught them. 

 

So this old school education has en-trained us to be passive (such as sitting at your desk and not speaking, etc.).  

Let alone, being brave to raise your hand to ask a question and maybe be wrong!

Our brain DOES NOT  learn through consuming but by creating.

I’m sure you’ve heard before that “Learning is not a spectator sport .”   

I couldn’t agree more. 

In order to have active learning, do things like taking notes and asking questions in the moment. 

The more active you are, the more you will learn.

State

State is the feeling or our emotion. Emotion is a state.

Information combined with emotion becomes a long-term memory. 

We all know the feeling—that instant surge of memory that comes with a particular smell or the first few notes to a song? 

All learning is state-dependent.

And you are responsible for your state – the way to move, stand, sit while you are engaged. 

So what are these E-MOTIONS?   Curiosity, joy, and fascination are all states.

Consider the mood of your mind and body, avoiding the dull state that comes with sitting and being lectured to. 

In fact, “They say sitting is the new smoking. 

Standing and moving changes your physiology, which affects your psychology, and in the end- your state. 

One powerful way to think about this foundation is a visual that represents the difference between a thermometer and a thermostat. 

A thermometer is a device that reacts to what the environment is giving it. 

A thermostat sets a standard and the environment raises to that level.

No matter what stage of life you’re at, be that thermostat.

One last thing.  As a hypnotherapist, I know to my core that IMAGINATION and being curious, and fascinated, just like children - shortcuts the analytical mind and allows information to flow and therefore breaking through limitations and expanding the mind.  . 

TEACH 

When you teach something, you get to learn it twice. 

When I engage in content I want to share, I approach it as if I am going to teach it to someone else.

Simply put,  if you are teaching, you will absorb the information better.

We lose 80% of the information we learn in 48 hours.

Taking notes is one of the best ways to mitigate this loss.

How do we teach what we learn? 

There’s many ways.  

Writing out your notes in preparation to share and teach

Sharing your notes to someone interested in learning.

What we have clarity and personal ah-ha’s on create the energy of inspiration ND higher vibration.  When we write out our notes in this state, our whole-brain is integrated into the process. 

The foundation for whole brain note taking:

The key is to establish the topic on the left and on the right side, explore the meaning, emotion and key notes.   

In conclusion , when you teach something, you get to learn it twice. When you learn with the outcome to teach it to someone, you own that information more.

And our time on the things we value have to get into our CALENDER

So “E” stands for ENTER, Enter the thought work, your ah-ha, or action steps into your calendar

 

REVIEW

Overcome the super villain of the forgetful curve.  

Research says 50% of your knowledge is gone by the next day. 

REVIEWING is the answer to this. 

It’s called “Practice active recall”. 

More often quiz yourself rather than re-reading material.

Do spaced repetition. 

Review new information for one hour, one week, one month and a few months later to enhance your long-term memory. 

You’ve now embodied a limitless mindset, personalized it, and documented it.

Self-awareness leads to self-regulation and our optimal health at every level.

It's challenging to change without an awareness of the necessity to change. In this case, what you don't know will hurt you.  

Depression

Dealing with depression is fundamental to living a satisfying life, and that’s reason enough to pursue mindfulness- energetic  and mood-boosting solutions. But a recent study provides even more motivation:

Researchers have found that negative thoughts can lead to premature cell death—and that equals aging.

How? The lifespan of a cell is dictated in part by a cellular structure called a telomere, which protects genetic data and helps cells divide.

Each time a cell divides, however, the telomere shortens; eventually it becomes too short and the cell dies.

In an analysis of studies involving more than 7,000 people, researchers discovered that telomeres were significantly shorter in people suffering from depression compared to their happier counterparts.

Hostility

Taming your response to the person who just cut you off or looping old negative thoughts from someone that “pissed you off” is costing you and adds years to your life, suggests research from the University College London.

Hostile thoughts are seen to shorten these cellular structures, leading to premature aging of cells—and you.

Cynicism

Doubting and being skeptical of any new or different ideas points to a study published the Journal of Behavioral Medicine found that cynical individuals had a much higher risk of heart attack, depression, metabolic disease, and die at younger ages.

Pessimism

Expecting the worst is really just the worst. In a study on pessimism and telomere length, researchers found that pessimism in both men and women was linked to poor health and shorter telomeres; when pessimists developed cancer or heart disease, the sickness progressed faster ending in an earlier death.

Rumination

Getting stuck in a rut is different from healthy reflection and a healthy future vision.

 

If you’re analyzing that same situation over and over - that’s rumination and it’s linked to anxiety and depression, according to research.

High levels of the stress hormone cortisol and elevated heart rate, which along with depression can shorten telomeres.

Other feelings such as suppression, comparison and more all point to the same results - excess cortisol, the release of stress revealing hormones - and the electrical messaging to the life supporting organs such as our gut, liver and heart.  

 

Thats the long of it!  Now make sure you have the self love and external support to keep those telomeres lengthened!

How Natural Skin Actives Compare to "MD Med Spa" Solutions

Over the past two decades, the emergence of medpsas has grown to see the fusion of medical practitioners in a field normally associated with the more holistic field of spa therapies.  

The market perception was an upgrade of the spa to include medically based treatments and products containing ‘medical grade’ ingredients.  

This model worked well especially with regard to aggressive anti-aging treatments.  These included invasive therapies such as laser, micro-dermabrasion, injections of fillers, and more.

I’m losing my hair, will it grow back? Address the #1 Root Now

As an organic salon owner for 20 years, this is by far the most common question I receive: 

I’ve lost so much of my hair, will it come back? 

Its a sensitive question so I want to address it here in detail.

Here’s the FACT:  Hair Loss Directly a Reflection of  Inflammation in the body. 

First, it’s fundamental to understand that hair loss is a symptom of inflammation. There are many unique causes of inflammation (which we will call root causes) that can disrupt our hair growth process.

I say “unique” because the root causes of hair loss will vary person to person depending on factors such as your individual health history, nutritional status, chemical exposure, and genetics.

Even if someone shares the same diagnosis as you (for example, androgenic alopecia), that does not mean that you share the same root causes. And, its important to note that a diagnosis is not the same thing as a root cause.

Another important point I want to stress is just because you share the same root cause with someone does not mean that it will display itself outwardly the same.

Here’s a simple example.  If you have two people exposed to the mold exposure (the root cause) there may be one person who experiences the symptom of hair loss while the other may experience the symptom of rashes. 

That’s because symptoms such as hair loss are considered not tied to just one root cause.

Root causes can also produce more than one symptom; its not typical that for every one root cause there is just one symptom. 

 

A final point I want to make about root causes is that there is always more than one. While you’re searching for the root causes of your hair loss, remember that it’s not just one thing but likely many different sources of inflammation and imbalance that will need to be addressed.

 

What Symptoms Like Hair Loss Are Showing You

Outside of a traditional diagnosis, symptoms like hair loss are a catalyst from other current habits (nutritional, lifestyle, environmental, etc.); meaning that the way we have been living is a mismatch to our body’s needs.

This should be seen as an invitation to deeper into our lives and to grow and evolve; to question our existing habits, incongruent thoughts and to try new things.

NO ONE “deserves” hair loss, you also do not deserve to be experiencing something as emotionally devastating as hair loss, nor are you to always be to blame. 

Where I want to refocus is that we are all responsible, or rather, respond-able; meaning able to respond to our circumstances. 

You have the power to start making different choices that can have real, tangible benefits to your health and the health of your hair.

What Results Are Possible For You? Is Your Hair Loss Reversible?

As to whether or not women’s hair loss is reversible, it’s important to understand that this is highly individual and dependent on many different factors. In some instances, inflammation that has unknowingly been allowed to persist for years can lead to irreversible structural changes; for example, leading to permanent damage of the hair follicle.

I refer to this issue of slowing thinning hair as “follicle miniaturization.” 

I’ve always followed a Functional Medicine approach which is an evidence-based way to reverse the main catalysts of dis-ease, including hair loss.

It’s critical that we view hair loss – whether it ends up being reversible, or not – as a clue pointing us to a deeper source of inflammation and imbalance that needs our attention.

Lastly is hormone testing. 

When women implement hormone testing, this is often missed. 

Its important to consider the timing of your testing if you are a menstruating pre-menopausal.

Levels of hormones in women between puberty and menopause fluctuate throughout the month depending on where they are at in their cycle. At certain points during our cycle, certain hormones can be low while others are high, and vice versa. It’s important that you have your hormones tested on the right day of your cycle so that they can provide an accurate picture of your levels.

For most women, testing hormones during the mid-luteal phase (days 17-21 of a normal cycle) provides the most accurate picture. You can calculate which day of the month to do the hormone assessment by counting forward from the first day of your period (Day 1 of your cycle).

(Corneo-what?)  The “First Do No Harm” Approach to Anti-Aging 

One aspect of Evoq’s skin philosophy stems from the research from Professor Albert Kligman who  is widely regarded as the father of cosmeceuticals, yet he was also well known for his pioneering work on corneotherapy.   

Corneotherapy is the care and treatment of the stratum corneum, the skin’s topmost layer and its principal barrier defence.  The stratum corneum is responsible for environmental protection while preventing water loss through the skin.  

An event that occurs on its surface can initiate a domino effect that sends ripples throughout the rest of the skin.  It is well-established that the skin contains entire sets of barrier defence systems – all interconnected, co-regulated, and interdependent – like cogwheels in a machine.  If one barrier function is compromised, other systems are also affected.  

As such, we treat it with respect by recommending a slower approach to skin correction.  We do not promote aggressive modalities or radical procedures that shock the skin into a temporary state of repair to restore appearance (such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or improper use of lasers).  

Corneotherapy takes the science of cosmeceuticals one step further. It could be argued that corneotherapy is the skin care concept of the future.  It’s where science meets beauty.  Another way of thinking of it is that it provides the link between dermatology and cosmetics.

An understanding of the role of the stratum corneum is key to the principles of corneotherapy. Essentially skin cannot be corrected if the stratum corneum is not in equilibrium. Many clinicians use treatments on their clients without first ascertaining the level of cellular damage or the condition of the bi-layers of the skin.  This can result in expensive, repeat treatments that do not obtain the desired results or may even fail completely.

Corneotherapy approaches skin care differently.  Before any treatment or products are prescribed, a thorough examination of the condition of the bi-layers of the skin is undertaken. It is important during this process not to upset the acid mantle, but rather give it what it needs to maintain harmony. 

Then, and only then, can you give it the ‘super food’ via advanced pure products, that it needs.

Corneotherapy treatment is centred on recovery of the stratum corneum. The stratum corneum, once seen as a layer of ‘dead’ cells whose sole function was to provide an impermeable barrier, has suddenly come ‘alive’.  While the stratum corneum consists of cells not capable of dividing and multiplying, it is far from being static tissue. Rather, it is dynamic and complex. 

When the skin’s barrier is disrupted, it is no longer protected from environmental stressors and pollution and loses its ability to protect and defend itself. If perfumes, emulsifiers and mineral oils are added to skin care products, the skin can quickly become further compromised.

Among the obviously harmful substances are surfactants, emulsifiers, preservatives and allergenic perfume substances.

 

Kligman had a clever way of describing corneotherapy as being like an “outside- in” therapy, where “outside” is the stratum corneum and “in” are the therapeutic effects starting in the stratum corneum and working their way into the deeper layers.

As Dr Kligman once said: “Whenever you see inflamed skin, regardless of its cause, it means that the stratum corneum is leaky and permeable. But, if you repair the stratum corneum, that tells the underlying tissues that they don’t have to keep reacting like there’s danger in the environment.”

Corneotherapy and Aging

The skin barrier

Maintaining a healthy and functioning barrier provides overall protection against dehydration, the penetration of germs, allergens, irritants, oxidative stress, and excessive ultra violet radiation. Application of products based on the theories of corneotherapy supports a gradual healing of any inflammation and other conditions that impair the barrier function. As stated earlier, there is a lessening of the cell function in aging skin. Nevertheless, we know that we can make both external and internal adjustments to alter the affects of the aging process. This indeed supports cell functioning and repair with improved immune response and rebuilding of the skin barrier.

Supportive regenerating ingredients – outside to inside therapy

Skin care products should be formulated with mimetic agents that compliment the skin. The dermal membrane structure in the barrier layers of the stratum corneum consists of ceramides, cholesterol and palmitic acid.6 They are naturally found in the skin bilayers that are responsible for maintaining the natural moisturizing factors (NMF) and continued regenerating of a strong skin defence. A resilient barrier increases the probability that the underlying skin structures are able to function correctly. Based on the research of Professor A. Kligman, moisturizing substances may contribute to stabilising the skin barrier leading to greater results.6 He called it Corneotherapy: “outside to inside” therapy.

While there are less direct UV rays in the winter, there is significant reflection of these rays which can still easily cause sunburn.

I recommend that all of my clients wear sunscreen daily to prevent cumulative sun exposure and the resulting fine lines, wrinkles, discoloration, and even skin cancer.
 

From the plethora of toxic and smelly sunscreens (year around) - which to choose from?

Check the labels and see that they offer various SPF protection number values. 

You’re well aware of the sun’s damaging effects on skin: Cancer, pre-mature skin ageing, wrinkles, immune system suppression etc’… Scary stuff indeed. So if SPF- 15 is good, isn’t 100 better? Why not have SPF-500?
 

 If you automatically think that a higher SPF number is better, you logically should be correct, but as we will see below, the answer isn’t as obvious as you might think.

Let’s try to clear-up exactly what the SPF is, what the differences are between the values and how you can pick the best number for you so do not have to worry about the pesky potential harmful sunlight side-effectsand their direct correlation to aging - faster! It’s time to bust the higher SPF myth!

 

Sunscreen for skin health.

The Sun Protection Factor or SPF is utilized to measure a sunscreen products protection from UVB (Ultra Violet B) rays, the type that cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer. SPF however does not measure how well a sunscreen will protect from UVA (Ultra Violet A) rays, which are also damaging and harmful. Dermatologists generally recommend using at least an SPF-15 or preferably a SPF-30 sunscreen for everyday use.

A Sunscreen with SPF-15 protects against 93% of UVB rays, an SPF-30 protects against 97% while an SPF-50 protects against 98% (a relatively minor difference). Very high SPF numbers (such as SPF-100 and higher) are mostly marketing ploys. Most experts believe SPF-30 is enough, provided you don’t skimp, apply the proper amount and remember to re-apply for the duration of your time in the sun.

The jump from SPF-15 to 30 gives you a 4% protective increase while from 30 to 50 there is only a 1% increase. Beyond this minimal increase in protection, sunscreen products with very high SPFs can also encourage individuals to neglect other important protective behaviors, like limiting their sun exposure, seeking shade whenever possible and wearing sun-protective clothing. 

No sunscreen, no matter how strong, can offer total protection, so especially if the product is not broad-spectrum (which will be explained below), by preventing sunburn, sunscreens with very high SPFs can create a false sense of security, prompting consumers to stay out in the sun longer. 

 Sun damage (for example, UVA damage) can take place without skin-reddening doses of UV radiation, and even the best sunscreens should be considered just one vital part of a more comprehensive sun protection regimen.

You’re Looking For Broad-Spectrum

It is very important to keep in mind that SPF ratings only apply to UVB protection. 

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, you should look for a sunscreen that has an SPF of 30 or higher that provides broad-spectrum coverage against both UVA long wave and UVB short wave light, both of which effect the skin in harmful ways.

The FDA has cracked down on boastful marketing claims and established a standard test for over-the-counter (sold without a prescription) sunscreen products that determine which products are allowed to be labeled as “Broad Spectrum.”

For Optimal Sun Radiation Protection

So to recap, the key to proper protection is the amount applied (about an ounce) and ensuring repeated application every two hours or so. Most people tend to slather on either less than the required amount or much more. In the former instance, they are obviously under-protected, and while you might think the latter is preferable, people who over-apply tend to assume they are protected and re-apply less and not seek other radiation protection such as shade and protective clothing.

Regardless of any hype the sunscreen product you’re using might have, even sunscreen claims of “water-resistance” must have stated lengths of this effect lasting so as not to lull the consumers into a fake sense of security. None are 100% waterproof for any real length of time. So as with any SPF number, if you are physically active and sweating or get into the water, you probably need to reapply more often or risk losing the initial benefits of your application.

Clothing Doesn’t Wear Off

Remember that proper clothes are more reliable than sunscreen and you don’t have to worry about forgetting to put them on or reapplying. You’ll also be saving the amount of sunscreen needed because you’ll have less skin exposed. Broad brimmed hats are always recommended and darker colored or tightly woven fabrics and some specially treated UV protective clothing provide much more protection than say a plain white cotton T-shirt.  

Be sure to pay close attention to sensitive areas.

 – Note – Ladies, please remember that your make-up is not considered enough protection, even if it has some sort of sunscreen in it. The best way to enhance your coverage while wearing make-up would be to utilize a good facial moisturizer with sunscreen in it to better ensure having your skin remain healthy, youthful and wrinkle free.

Is Micro Needling Better Than Chemical Peels?

A client emailed and asked  me this question: "Do you feel that needling is better than chemical peels?"

More and more women are engaging in harsh chemical peels at home - with no advanced knowledge on how the skin works and how to optimize its repair mechanisms. 

I thought this was an excellent question to address  because with so many people talking about these skin rejuvenating treatments and mixed messages, it can be quite confusing. 

Micro-needling and chemical peels are two different modalities used for various purposes. It's like comparing apples to bread. 

Not everyone needs micro-needling, and not everyone is a suitable candidate for chemical peels. 

What Is Micro-needling or Dermarolling? 

Micro-needling, skin needling (or dermal rolling) was used initially as a clinical treatment for improving and reducing post-acne scarring. It works by breaking down existing scarred tissues with fine needles which stimulate the skin healing and rejuvenating process. 

Over the past few years, it has become a popular modality for reducing the appearance of aging, lines, wrinkles and tightening the skin. 

The process is called Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT). Micro-needling stimulates collagen synthesis, firming skin, minimizing lines, wrinkles, and scarring. Micro-needling works at a dermal (deeper) level.

What are Chemical Peels or AHA Peels?

Chemical peels, on the other hand, are superficial resurfacing treatments and work by chemically exfoliating the skin. 

Chemical peels improve the appearance of the skin by enhanced exfoliation. Chemical peels work on the surface at the epidermal level. 

Chemical peels help to minimize and improve signs of clogging, congestion, acne, open pores, brown spots, pigmentation, sun damage and fine lines. 

Microneedling vs Chemical Peels

So when would you choose micro-needling over chemical peels? 

If you have post-acne scarring or are showing signs of premature aging with sagging of the skin and deeper wrinkles, then I would choose micro-needling. 

If you are showing signs of fine lines, pigmentation, uneven tone, clogging, congestion, open pores or blackheads, then chemical peels would be more suited to you. 

Can these modalities be used together? 

Not in the same sitting, but certainly if we wish to improve the skin appearance at the surface level, we would recommend a course of peels. 

Following that, if the skin needs further rejuvenation treatments, tightening and reducing the appearance of deeper wrinkles, then a course of micro-needling will undoubtedly be beneficial. 

Preventative Treatments

I do not, however, recommend these treatments as a "preventative".  

Peels and micro-needling are excellent modalities we use to improve skin where it needs it. 

But just because a person with damaged skin gains excellent results does not mean a young, healthy skin needs it as a preventative. It's like taking antibiotics when you are not sick. 

Healthy skin should focus on "preventative" treatments such as facial treatments infusing vitamins, minerals, peptides, anti-oxidants, cleansing, exfoliating and moisturizing. 

Wearing sunscreen every day is perhaps one of the best "preventative" things you can do for healthy and beautiful skin. 

And if you have acne, stop picking and squeezing, these are sure ways to scar your skin and then you have a significant problem to treat later.

Many brain experts state that isolation and loneliness is becoming the fastest killer of our humanity. 

I 100% agree.  

As human beings, our minds are greatly affected by two opposing hormones: cortisol (the stress hormone) and oxytocin (the love hormone). These hormones are released in our brains in reaction to various stimuli.

Threatening or upsetting stimuli, for instance, causes our brains to release cortisol. This sudden increase in cortisol, as well as adrenalin, is tied to our primal fight, flight or freeze response. These stress hormones were necessary for our ancestors to fight off an attack or flee from a dangerous situation. 

However, when we read an alarming bit of news on our computers, we neither fight nor take flight. So we are left frozen in a state of hyper-vigilance and hyper-arousal. Our blood pressure goes up, our hearts race, our immune systems begin to shut down, increased gastric acid can lead to acid reflux or nausea. That fiery lump of nauseous anxiety I was feeling during the election cycle, THAT was cortisol.

The long-term health consequences of elevated cortisol can be dire.

Luckily, there is an antidote to the stress hormone, and that is oxytocin! Often referred to as the “love hormone,” “trust hormone,” or “empathy hormone,” oxytocin is released in response to comforting stimuli. This hormone is essential in developing connections with others. 

According to studies, “Oxytocin can induce anti-stress-like effects such as reduction of blood pressure and cortisol levels.” Additionally, oxytocin stimulates “positive social interaction” and promotes both physical and psychological well-being.  That feeling of kindness, openness and connection is oxytocin. 

Close Contact

Human touch has a powerful effect on our brains. When the pressure receptors, known as “Pacinian corpuscles,” beneath our skin are stimulated, they send a signal to the vagus nerve in our brains. 

The vagus nerve slows down the heart, decreases blood pressure and reduces stress.  

Walking Outside

Walking outdoors is statistically correlated with higher levels of oxytocin. The combination of light exercise and sunshine does our brains good. Furthermore, the act of walking bonds us to the people we are walking with. Marching alongside friends and strangers alike would have contributed to us feeling closer and more connected to them.

 Laughter

Laughter triggers the brain to release oxytocin. 

Expressing Emotions

Studies show that suppressing emotions leads to lower levels of oxytocin. When we hold back our feelings, we create more stress in our bodies and minds. Expressing pent up feelings, such as sadness, anger and frustration, in a healthy way can be a powerful stress-buster.  

Kindness and Generosity

Acts of kindness and generosity  create  feelings of emotional warmth within us that are linked to an increase in oxytocin.   

According to British psychotherapist, Jonathan Hoban, “Oxytocin plays a pivotal role in the process of reconnecting, rebuilding trust and feeling safe. 

If we all took certain daily actions that encouraged the production of oxytocin within ourselves and others, we would see divisive behavior and fear lessen within our society.

It's the worst!  Watching your hair slide down the shower drain or clumping up on your brush is a horrible feeling, especially for women!

Our hair is connected to our identity, our youth, and our health.

While it’s natural for some women to experience hair loss at certain times in their menstrual cycles or times of the year, hair loss is also caused by specific health conditions including a thyroid imbalance.

So the question here is....

Why does a thyroid imbalance cause thinning hair?

Your hair normally grows in a healthy cyclical pattern with most of the hair follicles growing while only a small number are “resting.”

With a thyroid imbalance, this cycle can be thrown off, resulting in more hair follicles “resting” than growing — and more hair falling out.

Hair loss is a very common symptom of a thyroid imbalance.

But thyroid imbalances often arise slowly and remain unnoticed by women and their doctors in the early phases.

This is because standard labs have a very wide range for what is “normal” in terms of thyroid test results.

So here are 5 signs and symptoms your hair loss is connected to a thyroid disorder

1. Thinning eyebrows

Hypothyroidism - which is an underactive thyroid  often causes general hair loss as well as thinning of the outer third of the eyebrows.

We don’t know exactly why the eyebrow is targeted in thyroid disorders, but this is a good indicator that your thyroid hormones may be low.

2. Hair that is brittle, dry, and breaking easily.

Dry, brittle hair is also connected to low thyroid function. And research published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism finds that thyroid hormones increase growth and color in hair.

Low thyroid hormone can lead to the early release of the hair shaft and root, as well as premature gray or white hair.

3. Feeling exhausted all the time, even after 8 hours of sleep.

The thyroid is the master of our metabolism, so it affects the way we use and store energy.

With low thyroid hormone, metabolism slows down. This can often lead to persistent fatigue as well as weight gain

Many people with hypothyroidism have an excess of a compound called mucin.

Do you need to exercise your face?  

There are endless tactics to defy aging on the market, and for all you holistic gals, you may have seen inference to face exercises or ‘face yoga’ as the trendy new way to strengthen the muscles of your face to help fight the signs of aging (like sagging jowls and wrinkles). 

Does it work?  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I research and deliver evidence-based beauty and so the first thing to say is that there are no scientific studies to verify the claims that these sorts of face workouts are effective. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Therefore, my professional opinion on this is going to be based on the first principles combined with logic. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Can doing facial exercises actually ‘build’ the muscles of the face? 

We know that muscle growth comes about from damage of the muscle via active use – like weight-lifting in the gym. 

The damage induced stimulates a whole host of responses which culminate in the muscle becoming bigger and stronger. 

If you have ever tried to put on noticeable muscle mass in the gym, you will know that this is actually a lot more difficult to achieve then it sounds and even with meticulous attention to lifestyle, diet and workout planning, one can and should only expect small gains to be made over time. 

Facial yoga does not involve any weight-bearing and, even though these are small muscles, they would still require a decent enough stimulus to initiate the muscle growing process. 

So based on this I would suggest that no, facial exercises cannot build muscles in the face. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I think we need to ask...why would we want to enlarge the muscles of your face?

I think a more realistic question is:  Is muscle atrophy what causes the signs of aging? 

Loss of muscle as we age is a natural part of aging and certainly, some of that occurs in the face but the aging face is due to an interplay of many factors like fat loss, loss of collagen and elastin in the dermis of the skin and changes to the epidermis. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Though facial exercises are certainly not harmful and may create blood flow -   it is very unlikely to bring about significant, noticeable changes to your skin or facial structure.

What IS a great alternative that is none invasive and studied?

We all know that Stress can have a detrimental impact on mental health.

Today we’re going to crack open how stress effects our health, and how this then roll’s over into our outer beauty. Essentially, how it accelerates aging, where - and how.  

Long term stress can eventually become chronic stress, which leads to depression, anxiety, insomnia, and frequent fatigue.

Depression is a serious mental health condition that can cause you to have negative feelings towards all aspects of life.  

Losing interest in things you used to enjoy, feelings of hopelessness, and suicidal thoughts are common symptoms of depression, but it can affect people differently.

 

HOW IT AFFECTS PHYSICAL HEALTH

Stress is proven to weaken the immune system, which is essential to keeping us healthy!  

The stress hormone, corticosteroid, suppress the immune function so that our infection-fighting white blood cells are less able to battle the antigens that enter our body.  

So, you may notice in particularly stressful times that you’re more prone to getting a sniffly nose or adrenal fatigue.

The body’s response to stress increases your heart rate. The stress hormone, adrenaline, that’s triggered by the natural “fight or flight” response, causes the heart to beat faster and blood pressure to increase. So, constant stress puts your internal self into overload – this is said to severely heighten your chance of cardiovascular disease, the leading killer of Americans.

High levels of stress are known to have damaging effects on your skin and hair, too!  

 

HOW STRESS AFFECTS SKIN HEALTH

ACNE

There are a few reasons why you might notice breakouts on your skin, whether that be in the form of acne, psoriasis or eczema. The release of the stress hormone, Cortisol, throws your other hormones off balance, causing imperfections to appear on the skin. Stress can also affect your gut, by outweighing the good and bad bacteria that sits in it. Uneven bacteria in the gut can cause rashes and hives, as well as unwanted pimples.

There’s the added factor of diet when you’re experiencing stress. When working long hours, it’s not uncommon for you to choose quick and easy food, as well as energy drinks or coffee to keep you going. These dietary choices can show up as pimples and blemishes on the skin, and exacerbate existing skin conditions.

UNDER EYE CIRCLES

Under-eye bags are far from ideal – they make you look tired and ill, and there’s only so much concealer you can cover them with. When you’re experiencing stress or burnout, there’s a high chance that you’re lacking the sleep you need, which in turn makes you feel more stressed. Sleep deprivation results in higher levels of Cortisol itself, so it antagonizes the body even more!

Currently, 50 million people are living with dementia globally, and that number is projected to nearly triple by 2050. Keeping your brain healthy as you age is paramount.

Your body has a neuromodulatory signaling system known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS). In recent decades, science has discovered that the ECS is involved in various bodily and mental health conditions. Because of this, the ECS is currently the subject of much research.

The cannabis sativa plant has naturally occurring chemicals which mimic endocannabinoid messengers in your body. Preclinical and clinical studies suggest that these substances may prove useful in treating pain, diseases, and many mental health conditions.

 

Your Endocannabinoid System:

The ECS plays important roles in central nervous system development, synaptic plasticity, and your body’s response to internal and environmental insults. There are three primary parts:

Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells. In each tissue, the cannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis, the maintenance of a stable internal environment despite fluctuations in the external environment.

Endocannabinoids and cannabinoids are also found at the intersection of the body’s various systems, allowing communication and coordination between different cell types. At the site of an injury, for example, cannabinoids can be found decreasing the release of activators and sensitizers from the injured tissue, stabilizing the nerve cell to prevent excessive firing, and calming nearby immune cells to prevent release of pro-inflammatory substances. Three different mechanisms of action on three different cell types for a single purpose: minimize the pain and damage caused by the injury.

The endocannabinoid system, with its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and all of the body’s organs, is literally a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system we begin to see a mechanism that explains how states of consciousness can promote health or disease.

In addition to regulating our internal and cellular homeostasis, cannabinoids influence a person’s relationship with the external environment. Socially, the administration of cannabinoids clearly alters human behavior, often promoting sharing, humor, and creativity. By mediating neurogenesis, neuronal plasticity, and learning, cannabinoids may directly influence a person’s open-mindedness and ability to move beyond limiting patterns of thought and behavior from past situations. Reformatting these old patterns is an essential part of health in our quickly changing environment.

 

How CBD Interacts With the Brain:

At least 60 biologically active molecules have been isolated from the Cannabis sativa plant. Cannabidiol(CBD) is one of the two primary cannabinoids found in the plant. You have probably heard of the other one, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). It’s what produces the “high” associated with marijuana.

Your brain has protein receptors all throughout it that respond to endocannabinoids. When a person ingests cannabis, the cannabinoids from the plant bind to these receptors. It’s similar to a key fitting into a lock. Exactly which receptors are affected, and what parts of the brain get involved, vary for each individual depending on their genetic make-up, drug-taking history, and expectations about the experience (the placebo effect).

 

According to research, CBD interacts with the brain in numerous beneficial ways:

1.- CBD Reduces Inflammation

While inflammation itself is necessary for your survival, an overactive inflammatory response isn’t good. Neuroinflammation plays a role in many neurological conditions. Research has linked inflammation to a range of issues from depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s disease, and memory trouble to stroke and epilepsy. There is some evidence to suggest that inflammation may also play a role in fatigue and brain fog.

Preliminary studies suggest that CBD slows down a body’s overactive inflammatory response. In one study on mice, CBD even reduced neuroinflammation following a stroke. By reducing inflammation in the brain, CBD may help to alleviate the symptoms of many neurological conditions.

While age-related cognitive decline is due to many factors ranging from genetics to lifestyle habits, it is also partly due to a decrease in neuroplasticity and neurogenesis in an aging brain. Neuroplasticity is the ability of your brain to change and reorganize and is the process through which all memory and learning take place. Neurogenesis is the birth of new brain cells.

In the same study that determined CBD reduces stroke-induced neuroinflammation in mice, CBD increased neurogenesis and neuroplasticity.

Have you ever looked at your hair — like, really, really taken a good look at it — and noticed that it looks and/or feels a little differently than it did a few years ago?

Your curls may not be as springy as they once were, or maybe your curl pattern altogether has loosened up a little.

Upon running my hands through my hair a few months ago, I discovered that the curls at the back of my head didn't feel quite as tight or kinky as they used to. If you've shared this experience, don't panic — your mind isn't playing tricks on you.

Humidity, age, hormones, heat-styling damage, hair-color damage, infrequent haircuts, and conditioning products are just a few of the things that can influence your hair texture.

In a lot of cases, heat damage could be the culprit, though there's a lot more to it than just that. Your hair's texture can actually go through a number of changes in your lifetime due to both internal and environmental factors.

Humidity, age, hormones, heat-styling damage, hair-color damage, infrequent haircuts, and conditioning products are just a few of the things that can influence your hair texture.

Sometimes curly hair can be "weighed down and become straighter" as it grows longer, but in other cases your hair could also be affected by your DNA.

As you age, DNA that affects your hair follicle can actually flip and send different messages to your hair follicle.

One noticeable outcome of this DNA flip is known as male pattern baldness or hair thinning.

Sometimes when your hair thins it changes the texture and it looks less frizzy and more smooth.

Speaking of age, your own age and the age of your hair can play a role here as well.

The complete hair cycle lasts about four to seven years, meaning four to seven years after the beginning of your cycle, all of your hair sheds and is replaced by a new mane with its own new properties.

Maybe the new head of hair has never been exposed to damaging color or styling tools or maybe it's never been cut regularly so has no frizzy split ends.

With that in mind, it might be helpful to consider your haircare practices every once in a while.

Not every product or ingredient deserves a place in your routine, as some could be doing more harm than you think.

If your hair texture or pattern is changing, I strongly urge you to start examining your routine and recent history, because it could very well indicate [chemical] damage, and assess what color line you're using.

About Peter Straubinger

Peter is a graduate with honors from the renowned University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and in the 1990s his interest in Transpersonal Psychology led to intensive practice in yoga and meditation.

Through becoming a hypnotherapist, I've been awakened to the critical importance of helping children develop their analytical mind - in the most healthy way. Free of labels, fully supported, and by thriving in a ecosystem both at home and at school.

Children are the seeds of our future and the generation that will resolve—from a greater level of consciousness—the conditions and problems the previous generations created.

That’s why the topic of children and how to raise them is incredibly important.

Our Thoughts Become Things. When it comes to mindfulness, I’m hopeful as I see different techniques like yoga and mediation being brought into the classroom. It’s amazing that as children, we’re NEVER taught to better manage our minds.

The goal is to properly encourage children to understand that their thoughts become things, and that they can begin to think and feel in more self-supporting and unlimited ways—based on how they are programmed.

I feel that the earlier the intervention, the better. For example, children between the ages of 0 – 2 produce slow brainwave patterns, which means they function in a realm of delta. These are brainwave patterns that occur in meditation or the deepest stages of sleep. This is why infants only stay awake for short periods of time.

Between the ages of 2 – 6, children’s brainwave patterns move into theta, which is a very hypnotic and suggestible state.

Due to these delta and theta brainwaves, and the fact that they have not yet developed the analytical mind, in the first six years of a child’s life they are very programmable.

Thus, because the editing function of the mind has not yet formed, information goes right into the subconscious mind.

Comments like—big boys don’t cry, little girls should be seen and not heard, you’re not very good at math, money is the root of all evil, you’re like me – you have a short temper—these are all negative suggestions that begin to subconsciously program a child.

If we can negatively influence a child at these early ages with such reinforcements, it makes sense that we can program a child in the opposite way.

Between the ages of 6 – 12, children move into alpha brainwaves, which is the imaginary realm. This stage is where children pretend, play make believe, dream of being astronauts and princesses, and so on. This is the realm of the imagination—a very important realm—because during this stage children are as creative as they are easily influenced.

A child’s analytical mind begins to form right around the ages from 6 – 8. When the analytical mind more fully forms around the age of 12, the tween’s brainwaves move into beta brainwave patterns.

In beta, our attention is predominately on the outer world. This is why it’s important to set up a healthy and supportive ecosystem for children before the analytical mind forms (because it takes very little effort to subconsciously influence them) and why training children with positive suggestions at a young age builds the foundation of who they become later in their life.

Through hypnotherapy, I’ve helped teens understand the principles of postive mind management, what values are, to teach them about their own biology, how hormones influence them, and how to create their own reality.

The Place Where Thoughts Become Things” is so critical for the overwhelmed mind of our children.

Ultimately, we want to teach people how to create their life by changing their thoughts and feelings so they can build a better future for themselves, the planet, and everyone living on it.

To do this, however, it’s paramount for us to invest in better ways for our children to think, learn, grow, and be programmed in positive ways.

As children grow, their thoughts and feelings can work for or against them, which is why proper supportive positive mind management programming at an early age is essential.

This is the important, fundamental point when it comes to helping children understand how the mind works, how negative self talk destroys their self worth, confidence and ability to grow their skill sets.

In fact, Ive heard that children of parents in this work regularly ask their parents to do the meditation before they go to bed.

Parents report that they love to do this meditation as much as their children, and that they do it together every night before bed.

That habit—children learning to meditate regularly—is a great programming habit in and of itself.

May we never take for granted the power of the mind, and resolving misunderstandings, limiting beliefs or any other blocks holding children and adults from breaking through glass ceilings.

Talking SLEEP - and lack thereof it.

Sleep deprivation: an estimated one in three Americans are suffering from it and lack the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep a night.

More than slowing you down throughout your day, a chronic lack of sleep can wreak havoc on the immune system, libido, cognitive abilities, and lead to premature aging and disease.

Redefining your ‘sleep hygiene’ — known as your nighttime schedule, pre-bedtime activities, food, and the environment — is the first step to getting adequate rest. If tweaking our sleep hygiene doesn’t work, we often take our troubles to the doctor’s office for a prescription.

CBN brings great hope for those that struggle with finding new sleep hacks, medications, or simply suffering with no resolution.

With no further adoooo…. Lets jump in!

As noted, CBD is the most abundant cannabinoid found in hemp, it’s just one of many that are thought to be supportive in the face of mental or physical stress. CBG (cannabigerol) and CBC (cannabichromene) are known as anti-inflammatory agents. CBN (cannabinol) shows some promise as a sleep aid. While CBD is believed to have these benefits, I believe we can create more nuanced, targeted solutions by incorporating higher levels of these secondary cannabinoids.

STEP ASIDE, CBD—CBN & OTHER CANNABINOIDS ARE RISING IN THE SPOTLIGHT

A growing problem is that some common pharmaceutical sleep aids may actually be doing more harm than good, especially when the cause of sleep problems is not fully understood (or if sleep hygiene is not optimal).

If the root cause of your insomnia is from anxiety or pain, CBD’s signaling of the endocannabinoid system can target and level-set these issues related to a person’s sleep-wake cycle and pain processing, both of which are regulated by the ECS. While it can take some trial and error to find your standard dose for sleep, the general consensus for getting started is to start low, gradually increasing as needed after observing your results.

One of these lesser-known compounds is Cannabinol or CBN. It is vastly understudied since both THC and CBD have taken center stage when it comes to research, media coverage, and legalities surrounding the cannabis industry. And it is true that they are the two compounds with the most significant presence within cannabis plants.

CBN boasts quite a few natural health benefits, much the same as CBD and THC do. However, there are some substantial differences between this cannabinoid and its relatives which are important to be aware of. In this article, we are going to take an in-depth look at CBD and CBN.

We are also going to go over the fundamental similarities and differences between the two. This should help to clear up any misconceptions and hopefully leave you better informed about this more obscure member of the hemp cannabinoid family.

What is CBN

Showing incredible promise as a sleep aid, cannabinol is less abundant/readily available than CBD or THC, though it was one of the first cannabinoids discovered. It’s produced when THC is oxidized, which is why dried-out cannabis flower that has been exposed to oxygen can be a good source for CBN extraction. In addition to being an effective sleep aid, CBN joins CBD and THC in its powerful pain-relieving anti-inflammatory properties, as well as offering possible relief for depression and neurological conditions like epilepsy and Alzheimer's.

What is THC

The main psychoactive component in cannabis, it’s also a powerful analgesic that led to the relatively widespread acceptance of cannabis as a medical treatment for an array of conditions. Its function in medicine has yet to be safely replicated in a pharmaceutical capacity in a way that satisfies patients at large, which in part informs the resurgence of interest in the plant’s powerful medicine and compound isolates. One incredible discovery that’s been made regarding CBD is that its properties can counteract and reduce THC’s classic hallmarks of paranoia and psychoactive effects.

What is CBD?

Well-documented to be a powerful anti-inflammatory, cannabidiol was first discovered in 1940 but has has only recently been approved by the FDA in the anti-seizure drug Epidiolex. Following that remarkable precedent, the potential applications for CBD have become an area of stronger focus, with active research ongoing into the compound’s applications for anxiety disorders, pain, cognition, and more. Case studies as well as state-level legislation are indicating cannabis and CBD-based treatments can be effective for sufferers of PTSD or psychotic disorders. Its impact on the wellness world and shift towards self-care can’t be overstated.

Short for cannabidiol, CBD is a natural compound found within both the Hemp and Marijuana species of cannabis. All of the legally obtained CBD in the United States is sourced from industrial hemp, not marijuana plants. Although marijuana plants do contain some CBD, the amount pales in comparison to that of the hemp plant.

CBD sourced from hemp is also the only kind that is legal at the federal level. The 2018 Farm Act states that industrial hemp must have no more than 3% THC content to be used to create CBD products.

Cannabis is turning out to be an incredibly versatile plant, and CBD is showing real potential in the health and wellness industry. It is known to help with anxiety, depression, insomnia, pain, inflammation, nausea, and cancer treatment-related symptoms.

There are over 100 similar compounds found in hemp, many of which have not yet been studied. of these compounds, CBD and THC are the most well-known, but scientists are uncovering other chemicals that may prove to be beneficial as well.

What is CBN?

CBN, or Cannabinol, is one of these. It is said to have very similar effects on some health conditions, but CBN is more closely related to THC. In fact, Cannabinol is made when THC is either heated or exposed to oxygen. This means that you can turn THC into CBN by either leaving it to sit for some time or by heating it carefully in your oven on a low temperature.

When you think about it, it is kind of amazing how something like Cannabinol can be born from something like THC through oxidization. Yet, it has many different effects. While it is up for debate just how psychotropic CBN is, it can be concluded that it is nowhere near the same level as THC.

It is becoming more apparent through research that CBN has a potent sedative effect. Studies have found that CBN could potentially be as potent of a sleep agent as some of the stronger pharmaceuticals on the market. As little as 2.5 mg of CBN can be just as effective as some mild to moderate sedatives like Valium and Ambien—often prescribed to those who suffer from sleep-related issues.

On top of its sleep-inducing effects, CBN also appears to have many health benefits similar to those found in CBD and THC.

CBD vs. CBN: What are the Key Similarities?

CBD and CBN both come from the same plant family, and science shows that both may be effective for a variety of health conditions. A few of the common health conditions that both of these Cannabis compounds are said to aid in treating are epilepsy, anxiety, nausea, insomnia, pain, and inflammation. They have also both been proven to have anti-bacterial and neuroprotective properties as well.

The amount of scientific data available for CBN is limited as scientists are just now beginning to study it and look more thoroughly into its medical applications. Having said this, it is speculated that THC, CBN, and CBD may work better together for specific health ailments rather than being used in isolation of each other.

This is due to something called the “entourage effect,” the theory that two or more substances work better together than they do apart.

As more research is conducted on CBN and cannabis in general, we will likely learn far more about the different compounds within the cannabis sativa plants and have a better idea of just how closely interlinked they are.

CBD vs. CBN: What are the Key Differences?

Often when you hear about cannabis compounds in the news, it is either THC or CBD that people are talking about. In fact, many people don’t even know that CBN exists unless they have a keen interest in cannabis as a plant medicine.

Although CBD and CBN come from the same plant group, that doesn’t necessarily mean that they have the same effects or chemical make up. CBN starts as a completely different compound. CBN is actually what happens after THC is heated up or is exposed to air. This oxidization process helps to remove a lot of the psychotropic effects of the THC, leaving a mildly sedating compound.

Because CBN is a degraded version of THC, it is best harvested from dried marijuana plants as opposed to fresh marijuana or hemp plants. The reason for this is that industrial hemp plants have less than a .3% THC yield, which isn’t enough when you’re trying to extract any amount of it. Marijuana plants, on the other hand, can have a THC yield of up to 30%, which is more than enough to use for extracting CBN.

Another main difference between CBD and CBN is that CBD doesn’t have any sedative effects. Sure, it will relax you, but is generally not sedating. CBN, on the other hand, is proving to be quite an excellent sedative. Cannabis experts believe that CBN may be a big part of the reason that many people feel glued to the couch after smoking Indica strains of marijuana, which often produce a sedating effect on the user.

The final difference worth mentioning between these two compounds is that CBD has no psychedelic effects whatsoever. CBN, however, is thought to have mild psychotropic effects because it is a direct breakdown of THC.

In Conclusion

CBD and CBN share the fantastic ability to help people live better and healthier lives, but they do so in very different ways. We have only reached the tip of the iceberg when it comes to researching these two compounds. As more studies are conducted, it is likely we will discover even more benefits about the wealth of cannabinoids in cannabis.

Health and Healing through the Symphony of Music With Jill Mattson

If I’ve learned one thing in the past two years - it is the research, science, and proof of how sound affects our mind, body and spirit. 

Quantum science readily shows us that our thoughts, feelings, emotions, aura, etc - are all energetics combined.   

We know that the evolution of 5G EMF is affecting our health in the most detriment way - likewise, the secrets of sound give us great hope to self-healing. 

The power of music and sound has been known for thousands of years.  As a matter of fact, the power of sound and music is so profound that many have kept it a secret, so that this information would not be used for harmful purposes.

Today I am joined by an expert on the topic of sound healing, Jill Mattson.

Epigenetics is the Power of You!

“We are not victims of our genes, but masters of our fates, able to create lives overflowing with peace, happiness, and love.” – Bruce Lipton.

Have you ever said something, or acting in a way that was a direct copy of your mom, dad, or someone that influenced you as a child? Or that you look just like your mother or father?

Our whole lives we’ve heard about our pre-determined doom and gloom of our genetic destiny based on our ancestory.

When DNA was discovered – only a short 64 years ago – it made sense parts of our chromozone are passed down from generation to generation.

Scientists believed our DNA decoded our individuality and the promise of an ending disease.

Many of us (and its really not us, its the pattern) will say things like, “See? That’s why I’m depressed.” Enter - whichever parent handed down your “ default habit.”

Science is now pointing away from the idea that your DNA is the key to why you are the way you are.

We now know – through epigenetics – that you have immense control over your genetic expressions. More than we’ve ever realized before.

I call it the 80/20 rule.

Epigenetic have proven that 80% EVERYDAY lifestyle decisions determines the outcome of your health and beauty. Only 20% is determined by your coded DNA.

Our genes by continuously sending information that affects cellular function. Restoration, repair, nutrition and cellular division activities can all be impacted by negative Epigenetic interactions.

And yet, so many of us hold on to the idea that we are our genes. Collectively we’ve become victims of our DNA.

This is a mindset and old pattern of belief that is being corrected globally corrected, and fast!

We now know that we are able to change our genetic expressions through environmental inputs. There are a series of chemical tags on our DNA (our epigenome) that determines which genes are turned up, down, on or off.

This is very important because it means we aren’t simply expressions of DNA but dynamic and powerful beings. We are influenced by habits, diet, life experience, our childhood, social influences, community, the environment, and probably hundreds of other factors not yet considered.

So what does this mean? Simply this: It means that you have a chance to rewrite your health, life, and future.

Epigenetics also means that having a “genetic predisposition” does NOT equate genetic expression.

Just because your grandfather or father had Alzheimer’s or your mom had lupus - DOES NOT mean you are doomed and a victim of those genes.

Only one percent of disease and illness are caused by genetics. 
And yet people still give DNA an unwarranted amount of authority over their lives.

You have an immense amount of power to influence your life, and more than on a superficial level – it’s possible to impact your genetic expression on a biological level.

What is Epigenetics?
EPI-genetics is the key to how you can change your life experiences and the inner knowing and action to stop being a victim.

Simply by being aware of epigenetics, you can gain more control over your life.

Here’s how it works: 
Each cell in your body is wrapped in a cell membrane. Cell membranes are the regulators of your body.

These membranes control which molecules are allowed in and out of your cells. These molecules have the ability to turn genes on, off, up or down.

Epigenetics is the study of how your physical characteristics change, depending on how your cells read your genes.

Your physical characteristics are influenced by your epigenome – the collection of chemical tags on your DNA.

Some of your genes are being read and therefore expressed as character traits.

But then there are other genes that aren’t being read and therefore are not expressed.

And unlike DNA which remains relatively the same throughout your life, your epigenome can be changed through environmental factors.

What Influences Your Genetic Expression?

There are thousands, millions, probably billions of factors that influence your genetic expression.

Here are some epi (control over your biology) expression in our daily life that directs our mind-body - and they only scratch the surface.

Pretty incredible right? It’s also incredibly empowering. 

 

It means that you have the power to change your biology through beliefs, lifestyle choices, managing stress levels, aging more gracefully by reversing our telomeres and more.

You now know that you aren’t a victim to your DNA.

You now know that you have the power to influence your life, more than you probably realized.

Your DNA is a dynamic roadmap consisting of a series of paths you get to choose throughout your life. You can change the narrative of your life through everyday choices and the ecosystem you create - mind - body spirit and ENERGETICALLY.

You were made to grow and bloom. Even though the primitive mind “thinks” it’s in need to Survive – you’re made to Thrive!

This is where mindfulness AND ENERGETIC healthy expression help bridge us to this truth and the future of your life. 

This is where the truth sets you free.

There is always duality in life. We are in either an act of love or calling out for love. 

At the time of this interview, we are experiencing the spread of the coronavirus. 

For many, not only does the world feels less safe, but our everyday experiences of meeting our basic needs such as going to the grocery store feel threatening. 

We face an immense amount of financial and emotional stress, and on top of this, families may not have the skill sets and have experience of being disconnected and isolated, looking for ease in screens, video games and other addictions.

Though it saddens me that we have to experience something so traumatic as a collective in order to be empowered to change, I think it’s important to speak on the importance OF seeing this current reality as a PORTAL to opening ourselves up to creating new paradigms and new ways of being and healing from past traumas and staying present in the now with the help of others.

Identify Old Layers & Deleting Old Apps

Welcome back to part two!

Ok, so awareness is a mental process of IDENTIFYING the experiences and memories in your life, and seeing if they build your TRUE SELF or the EGO. The TRUE SELF wants to connect to the Mind and TRUTH, while the Ego tries to satisfy the Conditioned Self.

The Conditioned Self is a false representation of who we are; it develops from the layers of negative programming we experience and download in life. Seeing the world through the eyes of the TRUE SELF allows you to see what experiences and memories really build you up or break you down. But it takes work.

The True Self builds your connection to the life of the TRUTH. The connection increases when you swipe off and delete the old apps and layers. The plan of the TRUE SELF is to peel off the layers and not keep adding on.

The only way we can SEE if something is good for us is to first practice identifying them.

If we can understand if something is good for us or bad for us, we can consciously make an effort to remove the effect of that experience. When we remove the draining effect of the experience, we are deleting an app of our hard drive...like removing an old app off our phone screen.

How many old traumas, experiences, and apps are running in your background? What are the things that bother you the most?

The subconscious mind is the warehouse portion of the mind where we STORE painful experiences/apps and most often we forget about them. We can let them take a spot on our phone screen, drain our battery power, but never delete them because we don’t want to open them up. It’s too much hassle. The reason we don’t want to open the app is because we are too tired…but they are what make us tired.

You and I have to dig into our energy reserves, especially when we don’t want to deal with it. You and I may have to sacrifice time and energy to start opening the apps to identify the old traumas. But we need to look at them and see if they build you or break you; do they need to be kept or released.

The steps to awareness begins by opening the app, identifying the trauma, and seeing how much space it take up on your hard drive.

Working to release the trauma may take time, but the practice of IDENTIFYING is the first step.

Understanding the power of our subconscious mind’s control in our life is critical and so freeing once we take the steps to unravel what is stored.

Allowing this energy to flow into the shoulders, back of the arms and into the back of your neck. Moving forward into the forehead, relaxing your jaw, the tiny muscles around your eyes, feeling your jaw say - feeling loose limp and relaxed.

Feeling all of your facial muscles now just fully relaxed, perhaps with a small smile on your lips ingratitude of the time you’ve given yourself.

Very easy and effortless. Allowing this energy to move into the upper arms, the elbows, forearms, wrists and out of your fingertips.

Just allow this flowing of the energy of high vibration to radiate through your body.

Inhaling this clean flow of energy through your toes and out of your fingertips and crown of your head.

Just letting go of anything from yesterday, a dream or any sensation in teh body that no longer serves you, just allow it to flow out of the body, breathing in relaxation, truth, peace and a present calm throughout.

In this state, this homeostasis you find yourself in - i’ts easier to connect to our soul and higher self. The tedious things naturally fall away and we can enter into the priorities based on our values in life and the bigger picture.

This is the part of us that knows our intuition, the next steps and how to make the most of our day. In this knowing and intuition, we align with a flowing river that roles over what would be triggers of the day when out of this state.

Remember a time when you were able to find a way around something you never thought you could.

It may have been years ago, or more recently. But find that sense of confidence and pride the best you can, expanding that smile and grace on your face. You did that, its something others are waiting for. The word deeply needs you - always at your best.

Allow this incredible feeling to radiate throughout your whole body. Locking in this feeling of truth and releasing anything, not of your highest good.

And when you feel through the rhythm of your breath and radiant life-giving light is here for you now and you feel ready to start and seize your day in this flow, and not allow any obstacles to get in teh way of your righteous path, to allow yourself to flow right around them. Trusting yourself in knowing the right step, reaction, and insight it opens in you or others, just hold that with you right now in strength and deep in the subconscious.

Now when you feel you’ve totally released what you need to release so you can start your day, just take a few more breathes with excitement to start your day - bringing yourself back to the awake state - perhaps a smile of gratitude on your face - feeling the self love for yourself - wide awake - opening your eyes ready to flow into your day with a clean, calm, quiet, powerful and peaceful mind.

Here's How the Words You Choose Shape Your Life

Words have power. 
Their meaning crystallizes perceptions that shape our beliefs, drive our behavior, and ultimately, create our world. Their power arises from our emotional responses when we read, speak, or hear them. Just say the word “fire” while barbecuing, or in the workplace, or in a crowded theater, and you’ll get three completely different but powerful emotional and energetic reactions.

The Illusion of Life

Quantum physics long ago determined that physical matter doesn’t really exist, that everything is just energy in different states of vibration. Nobel Prize winning physicist Werner Heisenberg once stated, “Atoms or elementary particles themselves are not real; they form a world of potentialities or possibilities, rather than one of things or facts.” This energy vibrates at an infinite number of subtle frequencies that cause it to appear as all the different creations we see in our world. There has been a great deal of research in recent years as to whether the universe we live in is actually a holographic experience, and it seems that this is very close to the truth.

And so, it seems life is more of an energy flow than a collection of solid things. What that means for us is that if we stay conscious of the energy we contain, based on the emotions we feel, we can make deliberate choices that alter our frequency and create the realities we desire. If we’re feeling down about something, we can choose to reframe the situation and raise our own spirits. With a renewed perspective and a higher, more positive energetic vibration, we stand a much better chance of bringing good into our lives, rather than bitterly repeating old mistakes.

Words are extremely powerful tools that we can use to uplift our personal energy and improve our lives, though we’re often not conscious of the words we speak, read, and expose ourselves to. Yes, even the words of others can easily affect our personal vibration. Spend a few minutes with a chronic complainer who uses all sorts of negative terms, and you’ll feel your personal energy bottom out. Words have great power, so choose them (and your friends) wisely!

Words & Water

Japanese scientist, Masaru Emoto performed some of the most fascinating experiments on the effect that words have on energy in the 1990’s. When frozen, water that’s free from all impurities will form beautiful ice crystals that look exactly like snowflakes under a microscope. Water that’s polluted, or has additives like fluoride, will freeze without forming crystals. In his experiments, Emoto poured pure water into vials labeled with negative phrases like “I hate you” or “fear.” After 24 hours, the water was frozen, and no longer crystallized under the microscope: It yielded gray, misshapen clumps instead of beautiful lace-like crystals. In contrast, Emoto placed labels that said things like “I Love You,” or “Peace” on vials of polluted water, and after 24 hours, they produced gleaming, perfectly hexagonal crystals. Emoto’s experiments proved that energy generated by positive or negative words can actually change the physical structure of an object. The results of his experiments were detailed in a series of books beginning with The Hidden Messages in Water, where you can see the astounding before and after photos of these incredible water crystals.

The Power of Gratitude

In another experiment, Emoto tested the power of spoken words. He placed two cups of cooked white rice in two separate mason jars and fixed the lids in place, labeling one jar “Thank You” and the other, “You Fool.” The jars were left in an elementary school classroom, and the students were instructed to speak the words on the labels to the corresponding jars twice a day. After 30 days, the rice in the jar that was constantly insulted had shriveled into a black, gelatinous mass. The rice in the jar that was thanked was as white and fluffy as the day it was made. This dramatic example of the power of words is also detailed in Emoto’s books.

Throw-away Words

How many times a day do we throw our words away? We say things like, “I hate my hair,” “I’m so stupid,” “I’m such a klutz.” We never think that these words bring negative energy into our vibration and affect us on a physical level, but they do. Emoto’s experiments were conducted with water. Why? Because sound vibration travels through water four times faster than it does through open air. Consider the fact that your body is over 70% water and you’ll understand how quickly the vibration from negative words resonates in your cells. Ancient scriptures tell us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. As it turns out, that’s not a metaphor.

Say That Again

Some of us are in the habit of using the same negative words over and over again out of habit. The problem is that the more we hear, read, or speak a word or phrase, the more power it has over us. This is because the brain uses repetition to learn, searching for patterns and consistency as a way to make sense of the world around us. Only after being burned a few times can we understand that fire is always hot. You may not remember the exact end date of the Civil War, but odds are you still know what 8 x 9 is because you had to repeat your multiplication tables over and over again, drilling it into your consciousness. I’m sure you’ve experienced having a song stuck in your head all day long, and try as you might, you just can’t get the melody out of your head. Repetition is the most powerful tool to imprint something into our minds and keep it there.

This is of particular concern when we consider a phenomenon called the Illusion of Truth Effect. It basically proves that any statement we read, see, or speak regularly is seen as more valid than one we’re exposed to only occasionally.

Amazingly, it makes no difference whether the information is true or false. The only thing that matters is how often we’re exposed to it. Research from the University of California at Santa Barbara clearly shows that a weak message repeated twice becomes more valid than a strong message heard only once. Even one repetition has the power to change our minds. The same goes for pictures, which are just thoughts and ideas concentrated into an image. Repetition increases our mental validation of anything we’re exposed to, which is why it works so well in political propaganda.

If we’re not fully conscious of what we’re exposing ourselves to, consistency will trump truth every time. Now consider how many times you’ve falsely called yourself stupid, untalented, ugly, or anything else, and you begin to understand how your internal propaganda shapes a false self-image.

1. Making Words Work.

To consciously harness the power of words for your benefit, start with the ones you’re using.

2. No Name-Calling or Self-Criticism.

Everyone is doing the best they can at any moment in time with the consciousness they have to work with, including you. Be kind and offer yourself the same empathy and compassion you’d extend to anyone else.

3. Stop All Self-Deprecation.

Never make your body, or something you’ve accomplished, or anything else in your life the butt of a joke. Words have power, and quantum energy doesn’t have a sense of humor.

4. Resist Gossiping and Speaking Ill of Others.

It’s impossible for your words to resonate in anyone else’s body but your own.

5. Go on a Negativity Diet.

Instead of saying that a meal was terrible say, “I’ve had better.” You’ve basically said what you wanted to say without putting negative energy through your body—you even used a positive word to do it!

6. Boost the Positive Energy of Words.

Instead of saying something like you had a good time at a concert, ramp up the positive energy by saying great, terrific, or fantastic, instead. These feel much better and generate a bigger energetic response in the body.

7. If you have some negative nancys in your circle of friends,

limit the time you spend with them or find better friends. Negative energy has a way of dragging everything surrounding it in, like a big black hole. Avoid it when you can.

8. Surround yourself with positive, uplifting words.

Put affirmations on sticky notes around your home and office that say wonderful things about you, your family, or your goals. Wear clothes that have positive messages or phrases on them. Imagine the kind of positive energy you’ll be generating for yourself when you’re wearing positivity all day long. As you keep doing these things, you use the power of repetition in a highly effective way for your benefit. You have the power to change your world, and using words consciously is one of the quickest ways to shift the energy you bring into your life.

 

BONUS! Negative Word Detox!

This challenge holds the power to meaningfully and materially change your life.

For the next month, I want to invite you on a personal challenge and self-actualization upgrade by making the commitment to refrain from negative self-judgment and criticism.

You’ve probably done some sort of dietary fast or a cleanse in your life. I’ve done a few myself, but if I could only do one fast ever again it would be this one, hands down.

You see, whatever is happening in your relationships, finances, health, and emotions is rooted in the dominant tone of your thinking and your habits. The frequency that you share with your thoughts, underlying subconscious beliefs and what you allow into your soul make ALL the difference in what your life looks like - right now.

For the next three weeks, I invite you to walk the path of healthier thinking and self-talk.

You’ll get to choose and change your patterns so that you can create the experiences you want. Want better relationships? More appreciation? Opportunities? Would you like to just feel better inside? It all stems from your thinking and the way you treat yourself.

The process is simple, notice self-harming thoughts, release and replace them. You may say to yourself “its not easy.” But it is - it just takes focus and effort. Do NOT trick your mind by stating “it isnt easy.” That’s no-no number one. You’re totally capable!

It requires perseverance and that’s where most of us get beat ourselves up. We lose our motivation or something upsets us and we fall back into old patterns. This is why I do this challenge any time I start to feel the creep of anxiety or depression or frustration in my energetic bubble.

Even more powerful, grab your friends or family and do it as a group! This allows you to rely on each other for motivation and support. We are stronger and more powerful together.

You’ve got nothing to lose and the whole world to gain.

I’ve followed Dr. Gersh’s research around women’s hormones, PCOS and now her incredible insights around the relationship between Estrogen and the Endocannabinoid System.

Full Show Notes:

So let’s dive in and look at what is required to overcome inertia and make big changes in your life.

Human growth and development comes at the cost of making changes through time. Yet, somewhere along the journey, many people think, “I shouldn’t have to change… I am fine just the way I am.

In fact, you should change…” And this sentiment is the first step down a slippery path to a bumpy road.

Change is growth. Changing ourselves is fundamental to our growth, spiritually, physically, mentally, and creatively. And re-writing our narrative to name change as growth can be a powerful transformation, allowing us to embrace change as part of our lives. I want to discuss 6 areas of change to break through stagnancy and inertia.

6 Stages of Change

Not every aspect of our lives needs to be changed radically at every moment, that would be exhausting. Yet, along the way, there are places where our actions cause us or others grief. And, the impact to ourselves and others outweighs our desire to keep doing the same thing.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different result. Albert Einstein

So, in an effort to stop the insanity, let’s take a look at the typical steps in the change process.

 

Denial

I have live a life of creation and entrepreneurship, and one of the first principles of being an entrepreneur is the awareness of problems. Inately as a entreprenuer, we love to solve problems. If you can see all the problems around you, then you will have the basis for creating solutions, it’s a core business concept. I discuss this in my course “Life in Bloom,” how developing awareness about what isn’t working in your life, is defeating us, and I suggest we focus on what IS.

It’s all between our ears, and in our inner voice. What stories do you tell yourself?

And even more important, what stories do you repeat? If you are not where you want to be in your life, then it may be time to explore if you are in denial about changes that need to happen. Confronting our own denial is the most important first step in creating any meaningful changes. As long as you deny the need for change, you will not take action, and thusly, nothing will change.

Take a moment and consider a situation in your life, where you honestly need a change. Write it down and create your desire list. Get it out of your head.

Awareness.

Once you recognize that there are aspects of your life that need change, you can begin the process of developing your awareness. What stories do you believe about what you are capable of? Where do these stories come from? Do the stories work for you? Or, are these stories limiting you? Where is the gap in the story, from where you are now, to where you want to be?

Expanding your awareness about the stories that you may be telling yourself that are not benefiting you; is key to changing the story and unlocking the garden of your mind.

There is a subtle difference between awareness and acknowledgment, but acknowledgment is important in recognizing the truth of your awareness. People can sit in the place of awareness for a long time before they are ready to move on I believe that acknowledging the importance of your awareness begins to shift us into thoughtful action.

Acknowledgment requires that we own our behaviors, our thoughts, and accept that they didn’t develop in a vacuum, but rather that they came to us as a tool and they may no longer serve with the same benefit anymore. It is impossible to let go of anything that we are either in denial of or still fighting with inside ourselves.

Desire.

You can move from denial to awareness; you can have a deep understanding and have acknowledged the issues around you. But, if you don’t actually desire the changes, or want to shift your Story, nothing will happen. Desire can move mountains, and it can literally carry us along through difficulties that otherwise we would avoid. When the desire to be different overcomes the comfort of staying the same, we start to move from thoughtful action to actual action.

And, here’s the deal, we often take on changes because we think we are supposed to. Maybe our parents or our children want us to make a change. Possibly we are in the pre-contemplative stage and are only shopping the change, but not ready to commit. Whatever place you are in the change process, without a strong desire to see the change through, any bump in the road will likely knock you off the wagon. When I think about changes, especially big changes, I scale my desire. Zero (0) to ten (10); if I am not excited, energized or determined enough to be at least an 8 or 9 in commitment or desire for change, I have to wonder if I really want what I say I want.

If you find yourself lacking desire, rethink what you say you want. Look to your life, and sit with what is important enough for you to be at least an 8. Then make that the goal.

 

Blocks, Fears, and Sticking Points.

Once we know what we need to do, and we desire to do it, often comes a phase where our fears get triggered. We will often throw up all sorts of blocks, or fears, that can derail our forward trajectory.

The human brain hates change; there is some interesting research on the amounts of glucose that the brain uses to learn new things, and technically, the brain wants to conserve as much energy as possible. Trying to avoid change is the brains’ way of conserving energy. New habits require more attention than old hardwired habits.

Then there are the normal things that we use to avoid discomfort. Like the discomfort of being outside our of comfortable box. For instance, the stories that we have told ourselves for years about what we can and can’t do, what we should or shouldn’t do, these old stories will likely raise their voices and try and shut you down. I was just having a conversation with someone today about writing their book. They are in the space of not sharing what they are up to with others because other people’s limits get dumped on them too. “You know, it’s really hard… it’s probably a waste of time…” And all these are limiting perspectives.

The antidote to our fear is Grace. Giving ourselves permission to have fears, acknowledging them, breath through them, forgiving ourselves for being human, and then pushing on.

 

Creating a new story.

To make big changes, you are going to have to create a new story. Breaking up the stories in your life doesn’t mean you have to know exactly what the end will look like. Yet you do have to design a story that resonates with you, and that shows you the horizon in the direction that you want to go.

Questions that might help you think this through might sound like, what is important to me? What am I missing in my life that I will regret if it doesn’t happen? What am I passionate about? When I am having fun and talking with friends, what topics do I get really energized by? What do I think I am good at? What did I want to be when I was a kid? Is there a dream I gave up on that, I still think about?

Once you have a vision or goal of how you want to show up in your life, it’s much easier to determine the actions that will take you there. I ask myself this question for every goal I have. “Is what I am about to say, think, or do, going to take me one step closer to my goal or one step farther away?” This is my compass towards the destination of the story I want to live.

 

Actions.

Once you have a vision of the new story that aligns with your big changes, then you can determine what actions need to happen. Habits of action, thinking, reacting, or responding are like superhighways in our minds. To create a new habit, we are going to have to look for tiny exit ramps and pull over and get some extra resources.

Tiny habits are based on habit links. For instance, if I have a hardwired habit of brushing my teeth, linking a new habit to the old habit can help to form the new wiring in my brain.

You might try to gamify your big change. There are apps that you have to pay a nonprofit if you dont meet your goal! Its using our natural competitiveness.

In Closing.

If you have big dreams, what got you where you are, may need adjustments or flat out changes to get you further down the road towards your goal. Use these 6 stages to support yourself in plugging away towards what you say is important to you. Draw on your courage, fortitude, perseverance, and maybe your competitiveness and craft a story that opens the path to your dreams. Dream big – work smart.

Your brain can be compared to a hard drive on your phone or computer. You are born with a predominately empty hard drive, which is ready to be filled with information. In the first two years of your life, you are in a UNCONSCIOUS brain state, almost as if you are sleepwalking. This is the learning and observing time in your life; this is the period of time when the unconscious mind is heavily developed. These forming years you are DOWNLOADING information and experiences just like downloading a new app or program onto your phone. Each EXPERIENCE IS AN APP that is downloaded on your hard drive.

Every EXPERIENCE or APP have 2 things:

1. MEMORY SIZE-The apps and programs you download have a specific amount of information i.e. Megabytes or Gigabytes. The size of a experience, memory or trauma, will determine the amount of space the app will take up in your brain. Remember that any experience, whether good or bad, that REPEATS ITSELF can also increase the size of the app.

2. DATA TYPE-The type of experience/app you have is placed into certain category boxes on your phone screen. For example, you place all your banking and credit card apps in FINANCE grouping boxes, so when you tap on the box all the financial stuff is pulled up. This is memory recall.

UNRESOLVED EXPERIENCES:

Have you ever had so many apps running that your battery gets drained super quick? Unresolved or unprocessed experiences or memories are equivalent to old apps that are running in the background. You are not paying attention to them or conscious of them, but they are still draining your battery.

How do you gain your energy back? You have to swipe off the unnecessary apps. Processing old experiences and becoming aware of who you are is the action of swiping off the old. This allows more memory space to open up on your hard drive.

This accomplishes 2 things:

- Increases bandwidth for quicker downloads

- Increases processing speed within the brain.

Next up, we’ll talk about deleting and processing these memories.

Inhale…. Exhale….

 

Learning to control the breath is one of the most powerful (and free!) tools we have for improving concentration, cellular health, managing stress, and as a co-guide in our spiritual ascension.

By engaging intentional deep and rhythmic breathing we jump-start the natural laws of nature which will calm your thoughts, slows your heart rate, and regulates your autonomic nervous system.

 

Where the mind goes, our energy flows, so focused breathing helps you direct what your mind is paying attention to and focus on that thing without any distractions. When a trigger moment arises out of the blue or you’re anticipating a high-pressure circumstance, breathwork helps you control the physical and mental response to stress, preventing you from getting disjointed.

 

When reflecting upon your own life and inner nature, this technique helps you slow down and gain more insight and self-knowledge. And at a practical and physical level, proper breathing enhances lung capacity, strengthens your immune system, and regulates your neuroendocrine system.

 

The Box Breathing technique is recommended by a Nave Seal Commander who uses it as a program to develop elite level physical fitness and mental toughness. He quotes that it’s his secret weapon for creating a balanced, energized state, and a calm, focused mind.

Let’s jump into the flow!

 

The Basics:

* On the inhale, expand the belly, then the diaphragm, then the upper chest.

On the exhale, let the breath go first from the upper chest, then the ribcage, then the belly. This helps you relearn how to breathe deeply.

* Inhale and exhale solely through the nose. It stimulates the nerves that activate the parasympathetic nervous system and counters the fear response of the sympathetic nervous system.

Here are the 4 Steps: Note, you can choose a 4 or 5 count. Find your biorhythm.

We’re going to exhale 4 seconds, hold your breath 4 seconds, inhale 4 seconds, hold your breath 4 seconds. If that’s too long, make the count shorter the first two times then lengthen.

Please close your eyes and go inside your mind's eye.

As young women, I’m sure you can relate to that time of your adolescence that you hid your face and caked-on makeup due to feeling and believing that we were ugly and others were just staring at our zits as we talked to them?   Well, they are pretty distracting, but I digress!

This mini-episode is a little serious and a little silly.  I'm positive you'll have an affinity as you ponder on your innocent younger self and how it relates to the "Language of the Mind + Body!"

Let's jump in - and grab a pen and paper! 

Just when we thought we were well out of our puberty with a brief clear face, we entered our 20’s and the stress hormones combined with sugar, carbs and food sensitivities arose.  What? The zits are here again?   

Or how about that first love from high school that cheated on you and you found yourself blindsided, shattered, and broken wondering if you would ever find love that energetic again? Wasn’t you, was it how you looked, or then comparing yourself to Every Woman he may have looked at there after feeling not pretty or skinny enough.

Perhaps you are a young girl experiencing the fall out of your parents marriage. Your dad leaves and marries another woman.  Heartbroken, you feel forgotten, abandoned and unloved. 

I think you’re getting the picture. So what’s your story? 

 There is good news, even though these are shadows hidden, we can absolutely peel away the layers, heal and restore what we have embodied as we mature into beautiful, competent women.   Feelings are feelings and thoughts are simply thoughts.  

When we think about these past big T or little T, they can be lifted into the truth and the light of your thriving, competent current self loves and accepts the younger self - showing her safety with you now.  

The Secret Language of The Body are signals of  our today.  

“Feeling uncomfortable in your own skin, insecure, unacceptable, rejected, not good enough, unworthy of love. Holding on to self-hatred. Trying to hurt and punish yourself for past mistakes. Controlling; demanding unrealistic perfection from self. Overly sensitive.”

If you had experiences growing up, do any of these resonate? Do they still resonate?

So here we are reminded the mind-body connection is quite incredible.   The memories we have embedded in our subconscious and the emotions or states of being that get generated from those past experiences can later manifest physically into the body.

Acne and self hate can actually become a health issue. Every health issue needs our care from every aspect – physically, energetically, emotionally and spiritually. Most of the time, we turn to the physical expression of health issues and deal with this first. 

For many of us, we are self help seekers with a drive to be free of the past.  We are capable to see how silly it is that we are ruminating a emotion rooted from the stimulate of popping past zits.  Literally!

Laugh, breakout of the immature ugly shell because it is dimming the real truth of absolutely being good enough and acceptable. 

If you haven’t yet, this is your high calling - wake up call - to love yourself silly by letting go of the inner self-hatred from events that were not even your fault and  are still secretly holding onto.

Letting go is your total and complete ticket to beautiful freedom.  

Here are some affirmations to use.

Tapping and/or Self Affirmations:

  1. “Even though I feel uncomfortable in my own skin, I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”
  2. “Even though I feel so insecure, I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”
  3. “Even though I feel totally unacceptable, I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”
  4. “Even though I feel ugly and that no one wants me, I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”
  5. “Even though I feel like I’m not good enough, I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”
  6. “Even though I hate myself for what I have done (be specific), I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”
  7. “Even though I feel so guilty for what I’ve done (be specific), I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”
  8. “Even though I feel like I have to be perfect, I choose (want to or deeply) love and accept myself.”

Repeat and repeat until you feel released.   Revive your silly, child like innocence and feel how you’re so lovable!

What Causes Knots in your Hair, and how to untangle!

We all want beautiful, silky-smooth hair. Unfortunately for most of us, though, knots and tangles are an inevitable part of life.

We all want beautiful, silky-smooth hair. Unfortunately for most of us, though, knots and tangles are an inevitable part of life.

You can have gorgeous, knot-free hair! All it takes is some TLC to get those pesky knots out. And with a few tips on how to prevent them altogether, your hair will be looking better than ever.

What Causes Knots In Hair?

Hydrate your hair for knot-free living.

You may have noticed that certain types of hair seem to be more prone to knots and tangles than others. But what is it that actually causes your hair to knot?

Tangles are caused by the exterior layer of your hair, which is known as the cuticle, getting damaged. This means that instead of laying flat and closed, your cuticles are open and get caught on each other, causing knots.

Another way that tangles are caused is by your hair not being sufficiently hydrated. Always make sure to keep your hair properly hydrated by using the right shampoos, conditioners and hair care products for your specific type of hair.

Top 3 Ways To Undo Knots In Hair

1. Undoing Knots While Brushing

Brushing your hair the right way can help keep it smooth.

If you have knots in your hair and you don’t want to end up looking like a frizz-ball, try applying a small amount of oil based or silica based serum to your hair before brushing it.

This will help the brush go through your hair more easily, which will help detangle your tresses. Otherwise, you can opt to use a regular detangler. Start from the ends of your hair and work your way up, then brush out your hair gently.

2. Undoing Knots Caused By Products

Olive oil can help smooth your hair.

Yes, you use products to make your hair better. Sometimes, though, you may have applied more product than intended, especially when it comes to hairspray. It’s so easy to spray too much or to spray too close to your hair. This can often lead to unwanted tangles.

If that’s the case, your best bet is probably a bit of oil. Use a natural oil, such as argan oil or olive oil, or a serum, and apply it around halfway down your hair. You don’t want your roots to look like an oil bath. Work the oil through your hair until the tips, and then brush it gently. The oil will break down the product and help add moisture to your hair, making it softer and more manageable.

3. Undoing Knots In Wet Hair

Wet hair doesn’t have to be knotty.

After coloring your hair, you want to be careful on untangling the hair. Its just gone through a chemical process and is fragile. Same with hard water, these are ph imbalances in the hair that you want to be careful - as they build up over time, dry the hair and can cause it to snap.

If wet, knotty hair is your struggle, apply a good conditioner and use a wide-toothed comb to work it through your tangles. When drying your hair, blot or squeeze it dry rather than rubbing it. Rubbing your hair dry can cause it to tangle, and that’s exactly what we’re trying to avoid here.

How To Prevent Knots In Hair

But as the old adage goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” This rings true when it comes to knots in your hair as well. I mean, rather than having to deal with knots, it’s even better to prevent them in the first place, right?

Change Your Hairstyle

Shake up your hairstyle to reduce knotting.

The same hairdo day in, day out, was actually contributing to my knots and tangles. When you tie your hair in the same place all the time, it causes stress to your hair.

Over time, this can build up and cause hair damage – which you might recognize as knots. So, do yourself a favor and have a few different hairstyles for every day. It’s also best to use a scrunchie that’s covered in material, as these types are softer on your hair than elastic hair ties.

Sleep With Your Hair In Mind

I like to put my hair in a soft bun when I got to bed, not allwoing it to tangle.

Also, while cotton may be cheaper, silk pillowcases are best for hair that is prone to tangling.

Condition, Condition, Condition!

A good conditioner is important for your hair.

Yes, knotty hair is all about conditioner, ladies. Make sure you’re using a good quality conditioner, and use it regularly (at least every time you shampoo) to keep the knots at bay.

You want equal parts moisture and protein. Take care to condition the ends of your hair to keep them healthy and strong. A leave-in or deep conditioning once a week is also a great idea for keeping moisture in your hair and preventing tangles.

Use A Hair Mask

Besides helping to detangle your hair, a weekly hair mask will also help it become shiny and silky and even help it to grow faster. It’s not a huge amount of effort, and it’ll give you some downtime to relax while your hair soaks in all the goodness.

Let your hair dry naturally.

Consistent heat is one of the main causes of hair damage – and one of the ways hair damage manifests itself is in the settings on your appliances, so your hair isn’t getting literally fried.

Conclusion

Knots are knot a life sentence! True, you might have to get used to some new hairstyles or pillowcases, or find ways to style your hair without subjecting it to heat all the time.

But in the end, you only stand to gain. Because healthier, shinier hair is not something that just happens.
